Aleš Oblak

Volunteer of Hostelling International Slovenia

I come from the village Trebija, in Poljane Valley, Rovtar region, from Slovenia. I study English and American Studies at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana, though as far as I am concerned the most important education I have ever received came from the High School of Design and Photography. Writing has always been my passion and even though I mainly deal with literature I have completely by accident come across travel writing, which is slowly becoming a bigger and bigger part of my life. Through travelogues I have managed to come to know the beauties of my homeland, which I had previously brushed away, saying that Slovenia is boring and that I have seen everything worth seeing.

I love listening to the stories of the natives, but at the same time I am never satisfied with second-hand experiences, so I always willing accept even the craziest and stupidest travel suggestions. So far I preferred the eastern countries to the west, even though the furthest point of travels there was Sankt Petersburg, Russia. However, if you ask me about the vertical I rather travel southward than towards the north, because nothing quite beats the Mediterranean passion.
