Of course I have to start with Slovenia. Every part of this country is in this region. Slovenia offers lots of different activities. You can ski one day, spend the other day in the sea and visit a wine path in Styria on the third day. If you’re a keen hiker, you will definitely be impressed. At winter and spring your paths will be a bit lower, but autumn is the best time to visit mountains. After all the kilometres walked, you can go to one of the spas that invite tourists from Europe. Are you convinced and all you’re looking is an accommodation? Check if any of the Hostelling International hostel fits your criteria (I’m sure they do).

Alpe Adria Region consists of three Austrian states. Carinthia, Styria and Burgenland. Carinthia is the most southern Austrian state, known for beautiful mountains and lakes. At winter it offers beautiful ski slopes and its lakes are a must see. Grossglocker offers amazing views to those who aren’t in shape as you can simply drive there. Here is also one of the most beautiful Austrian castles, Hochosterwitz. A good starting point for all these attractions is Klagenfurt where you will also find a great hostel. Burgenland has about 300 sunny days per year and offers attractions for the whole family. It has six natural parks and a national park Neusiedler See-Seewinkle that will certainly impress you with its nature. And Styria offers hiking, biking, skiing and cross-country skiing. You can see a thousand year old oak tree in Bierbaum, edelweiss in Tenchtling or limestone meadows of the mountain Buchstein. The choice is big and yours.

Alpe Adria also consists of seven Croatian counties, Istria County, Medjimurje, Varaždin, Krapina-Zagorje, Karlovac, Koprivnica-Križevci and Virovitica-Podravina. Istria will spoil you with beautiful sea and about 3000 years of history. Pula was home of the Romans and Venetians, it was the central Austrian port and today it is a cultural and economical centre of Istria. Istria also offers a biking trail Parenzana that leads from Poreč to Koper and Trieste. And if you want to gain all the energy at the beginning, I recommend hostel Pula. Of course you can find beauty outside this seaside county. Koprivnica is a city that will charm you with its city centre, Franciscan monastery that hides a long history of Franciscan in Koprivnica as they came here around 1290. Krapina-Zagorje borders to Slovenia and offers rich history and culture. No other area in Croatia has so many medieval forts and castles, churches and archaeological sites that invite tourists.

Hungary only has one county in the region Alpe Adria, county Vas. Archaeologists have found settlements from Neolithic era, which is certainly interesting. Vas also offers some renewable sources, medicinal water. Rivers, forests and biking trails offer rest, and, more importantly, thermal water. Here you will also find some mountains, mountain range Koszegi and Bakony. The capital of Vas is Szombathely, which is one of the most important cities in the western Hungary and offers a museum, modern gallery, symphonic orchestra and dancing festival. Definitely worth a visit!
Alpe-Adria region offers diverse nature and culture. You can be sure that you will find some kind people and beautiful landscape that will feed your soul and maybe drain your energy if you will go on a hike. Come and see for yourself.
