Danhostel Skanderborg

Content
Skanderborg, one of Denmark’s beautiful merchant towns, is known for festivals, sports, history and culture. The area is part of the Lakelands, with rivers and lakes for canoeing, swimming, sailing, and probably the best fishing.  There are mountain bike trails and lush beech forest for hiking, and a variety of shops, restaurants and cafes located throughout the town.  Skanderborg is one of the best starting points for tours to famous attractions on Jutland.  Skanderborg Deer Park, Skanderborg Museum, Skanderborg Culture House, the bunkers in and around Skanderborg Forest, and Skanderborg Castle are just a few of the experiences in the area.

Skanderborg Music Festival or Smukfest will be held this year from August 2-9 in the beech forest. Also known as ‘Denmark’s Most Beautiful Festival,’ Smukfest is second only to Roskilde Festival in Copenhagen.  More than 45,000 visitors are expected to attend.  All genres of music will be featured by acts such as Dizzy Mizz Lizzy, Avicii, Chic ft. Nile Rodgers, Lenny Kravitz, Beck, L.O.C. Kim Larsen, Medina, and many others.

Danhostel Skanderborg lies in idyllic surroundings in the middle of a magnificent beech forest with panoramic views of Skanderborg Lake.  The main part of the hostel which houses 16 en-suite rooms is a wooden structure built by the Germans during World War II. In addition, there are 10 fully equipped self contained beautiful red log cabins.  Rental of canoes is available and there is a shallow beach with a jetty in front of the hostel. In addition to accommodation for singles, families, couples and groups, meetings and parties for up to 60 people can be arranged.  Host and owner, Egon Petersen, and his personable staff, omit the word ‘no’ from their vocabulary, and extend a friendly ‘good morning’ to guests each day.
