The Škocjan Caves system is made of numerous caves and passages, natural bridges, and sinkholes. It was created by the Reka River. The canyon, with its impressive stalactites, stalagmites, limestone pools and flow stones that look like snow drifts, is known as one of the biggest underground canyon in the world. The branched cave system is 6.2 km long, the lowest point of the tourist path is 170 m underground.

Tourists would describe it as a scene from Lord of The Rings. There are daily tours in the Škocjan Caves – through the Silent Cave (Tiha jama) and Murmuring Cave (Šumeča jama). Since 2011 it is possible to visit Mahorčičeva and Mariničeva Cave. This part of Škocjan Caves is only 300 m long but closest to the Reka River. Famous sinkhole, which you can see when Reka River flows about fifty kilometres on the surface and then sinks into the karst, is just one of the many attractions during the visit of the Mahorčičeva and Marinčeva Cave. Škocjan Caves are a part of Hostelling International – members get 10 % discount.
