The architects Buchner & Bründler signify innovative and modern architecture. New features are combined with existing aspects in Basel. Together with the construction of the Youth Hostel, the architects were also responsible for the Swiss Pavilion at the World Expo in Shanghai. An international orientation like Youth Hostels is therefore also normal for the architects.
The
hostel is available for guests from all over the world. The new building was reopened with 234 beds in different room categories (double room to a room for 6 people). The entrance lobby has an impressive look due to the transparency of the reception area, lounge and dining room. The combination of old and new features can be seen from the outside and perceived inside – everything is based on high architectural standards. The rooms are smaller, but still comfortably appointed.
Pilgrimage special 2014
The Route of St. James Switzerland leads the pilgrims on low traffic neighbourhood streets and streets of the city by the cities and larger towns, many of them have a long pilgrimage tradition of beautiful cathedrals and city churches and notable cultural attractions. Outside this heavily populated and industrialized part places the pilgrims through a shaped by the land and fruit industry landscape on quiet country roads and forest trails through fields and meadows, forests and wooded valleys. Their path leads through narrow and wide valleys with resting and flowing waters, along the slopes of the rolling hills all the way up to mountain ranges and passes, where the physical effort is rewarded with a wonderful view. On the way they come in neat farms and old inns, also former pilgrim hostels, over. Pull through hamlets and villages with neat houses and gardens and meet some friendly residents, who often come with a refreshing drink.
