Iguaçu National Park remains one of the most visited places in the country by Brazilian and foreign tourists.

Imagine an ordinary waterfall. Now multiply the number of falls and the force of the water dozens of times and you'll be close to what happens at Iguaçu Falls. To be more specific, the Falls consist of 275 cascades that, together, generate a flow of 1.5 million liters of water per second. The numbers help to understand the greatness of this wonder of nature, but only those who have been there can actually understand its strength.

The Falls are located at Iguaçu National Park, a protected area of 185.000 hectares which preserves local flora and fauna, several watercourses and beautiful waterfalls. For their unique beauty, Iguaçu Falls are considered a Natural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO and one of the seven natural wonders of the world.

It's not surprising that more and more tourists have been visiting the Falls. "Tourism here has grown significantly over the past 40 years. Last year alone, over 1 million people visited the National Park", says Miguel Angel Allou, owner of Paudimar Campestre Hostel, associated with HI Hostel Brazil.

The hostel gradually adapted its logistics according to public demand. "My hostel is no longer an accommodation for those who want to pay little. That changed a lot. We offer 24 hour reception service, air conditioning in rooms, free Wi Fi and a large entertainment area", says the owner. The Paudimar Campestre Hostel, inaugurated 16 years ago, was the first hostel in Foz do Iguaçu and, nowadays, it hosts more foreigners than Brazilians. The same happens at Paudimar Falls, also associated with HI Hostel Brazil. The hostel was opened by Miguel and his family, after observing that the city had a growing need for tourists' accommodation.

Those traveling to Foz do Iguaçu also have other leisure options. The tours of Itaipu Hydroelectric and of Bird Park are common requests. People also come from everywhere to try adventure sports, like boat rides to the waterfalls. But the visits to the Falls are still the favorite attraction of tourists: "I know many beautiful places in the whole world and I can say that few things fascinate me as much as the Falls", says Miguel enthusiastically.
