Olševa Mountain

Exciting, beautiful, untouched and full of interesting things and beautiful views. It is a mountain that everyone should visit. Olševa Mountain is the mountain that looks over three valleys in Koroška region: Savinja valley, Ramšenik in Austria and Koprivna valley. The mountain is suitable for everyone who loves hiking. There are different paths available, from easy to hard. If you want to climb the mountain with children, I recommend one of the easy paths. The most suitable path is the shortest one from Zadnji Travnik, which lasts about 1,45 hours. The path which runs by Potočka Zijalka cave is a little harder but beautiful. Path Through the Windows is also beautiful but quite hard and suitable only for the experienced parents.

Wonderful Views

Olševa Mountain is a mountain where I could sit on top forever and watch everything that is behind me. Valleys, pastures, other mountains... It’s a mountain with a soft grass carpet in the summer where you and your children can play and lay on. In autumn you will be charmed by bright larch trees colours while they will be bright green in the spring.

Potočka Zijalka cave

One of the most important historical points is right on the foot of the Olševa Mountain. Karst cave Potočka Zijalka is about 100 metres long. The archaeologists found some interesting things in the cave after many years of exploration. What they found changed our view on the past and brought us something practical for the present. Archaeologists found the remains of an ice age man and bones of a cave bear. Human who lived then made various objects, for example a needle. Back then it was made from the bones of a cave bear. A whistle, made from the lower jaw of cave bear is also worth mentioning. Your children will definitely enjoy themselves while visiting Karst cave. I suggest that you take a light with you, it is dark in the cave. In front of the cave is a wooden bench where you will be able to rest and enjoy the beautiful view at Kamnik-Savinja Alps.

With children on the path “Last Pasture”

The most suitable path to climb on Olševa Mountain with children is the path “Last Pasture”. The path is nicely described on this website. It is well marked. The beaten path leads us on the cart track and then leads to a more narrow forest path. After some time, the path returns to the cart track and leaves it after a few minutes and continues on forest path. I suggest you and your children to stop at hunter bivouac Foršnerca. A bench will do good to you and your children. The path will be a bit harder and steeper when you continue. The forest will start to thin and you will get new beautiful views. The most beautiful part of the path will start when you reach the ridge. The path takes us on and by the ridge to the highest point of Olševa Mountain, Govca. You can also continue your path to the neighbouring mountain Obel Kamen.
