Mallorca is the biggest and invites tourists from all over the world as it offers good climate, great beaches, turquoise and clean sea, wonderful hills, canyons, caves, historical attraction and wild nightlife. Road trip on the island

We had to be more organized, because there were six of us on the trip. We had to book a car for 6 people. And also find the plane tickets that are easy to get. They will cost you about 60 € per person, if you’re lucky. It is good to take a package with an accommodation and plane tickets. Or book an accommodation in the hostel in Alcudia. Hostel La Victoria is on the north of the island and is a great starting point for trekking. You can contact them on reserves@ibjove.caib.es. The island is small, so you don’t have to look for any other accommodation. If you want to get to know the real Mallorca, the best option is to rent a car or a bike if you have enough time. Mallorca is a paradise for cyclers. And we rented a car to get around. You are really free this way. You can drive wherever you want. You also decide what to visit, see the hidden bays and you don’t have to wait on the public transport. We got a car for around 200€ and we really visited the most beautiful parts of the island. The roads were nice, narrow only on hills. Sometimes they were so narrow that we had to reverse to continue the path.

Untouched Nature

Many can hardly imagine, that the famous nightlife of Mallorca and its hotels are only a part of what the island has to offer. Mallorca is famous for untouched nature, canyons, lakes, caves and so on. Mediterranean landscape gives a special charm to the island and offers endless possibilities to enjoy nature to its visitors.

Historic cities and other attractions

Beautiful historic cities are definitely a good reason to visit this beautiful island. The capital Palma de Mallorca is certainly worth a visit. There’s a gothic cathedral from 1601 in its city centre. There are quite a few museums, galleries and other cultural-historical attractions. And there are some other historical cities worth a visit on the island. Every city has an interesting historical story. And the youngest are thrilled about water and amusement parks.

Climbing the highest peak

There’s a diverse mountain landscape in Mallorca. Mountain range Serra de Tramuntana is a paradise for mountain lovers. There’s the highest mountain in the middle of the range, called Puig Major where you can see a giant dome. This dome is owned by an army, which also prohibits climbing on top of the mountain. That is why we decided to climb on the second highest mountain, Massanella. We climbed the mountain in three hours. The nice weather made it possible to see in every way possible. The mountain is really popular among hikers as there were a lot of nationalities on top of it. We also went on some other trekking. Mallorca is famous for organized hiking trails and there are special guides describing the trails. The locals are aware of the beautiful nature and are using it for the tourism.

Other Attractions

Mallorca is also famous for beautiful caves. As fans of speleology we couldn’t help but visit at least one cave. Cave of Drach left a big impression on us. It’s a very beautiful cave and you’re even more impressed when little boats with musicians come floating on the lake. The feeling of listening the sounds of piano and violin in this acoustic cave is indescribable. And for a beautiful view on the sea and the cliffs, you can drive to the headland with the lighthouse Cap de Formentor. The island offers a lot of attractions worth seeing.

Children and Mallorca

The island is perfect for travelling with children. Safety, comfort, amusement parks for children are the reasons for families to come to Mallorca. But our group decided to travel a little bit differently, as we wanted to walk a part of the island’s nature. My daughter, who’s almost two years old and my friend’s son, 10 years old, have embraced the nature and its activities like they were at home. They’re used to it. But we wanted everyone to have fun so we took a longer rest so the children could play or paddle in water. And there are plenty of playgrounds.

It is not surprising that this is the most visited island of the Mediterranean. You will definitely not get bored on Mallorca, everyone can find something for themselves. Some even call it the island of sun and the pearl of the Mediterranean. It is a paradise for hikers, bikers, those who want to rest, are fans of beautiful beaches, historic cities and fun.
