For 1 year around the globe – Part XI

We just love free tours

On our trip around the world we flew a lot. And airports differ in quality a lot, although they all serve the same purpose. Anyway, we had a great stay at Changi airport and we wanted to share our experience with you, as we are sure that everyone prefers a free city tour than sitting and waiting at the airport.

If you are flying around in Asia, it might happen, that you'll have a layover in Singapore. If your layover is longer than 5,5 hours (but not more than 24 hours), you can join a free guided tour. They offer two: heritage or city sights.

We decided for the city sights tour, as it was our first time in Singapore and we wanted to see the major sights. First we drove to the Merlion Park, where resides the symbol of Singapore, the lion. 30 minutes was enough to take some pictures and enjoy the view. Next stop was Gardens by the Bay. Here we can just say wooow. Unfortunately we only had 20 minutes here, so all the attractions like Skywalk and all the Conservations weren't possible to visit.  From here they took us back to the airport, from where we continued our journey to the Philippines.

What you need to know

  • Your layover has to be at least 5,5 hours, but not longer than 24 hours.
  • You have to register for the tour at least 1 hour before it starts.
  • Registration Boots are in Terminal 2 and 3.
  • You can't book in advance.
  • You need your passport, boarding pass and VISA.
  • They have a fixed schedule, so your layover has to fit into the tour schedule.

I hope it will work out for you as it did for us. If you have more time to spend in Singapore, here you can find out what we did on our second visit there.
