HI Ein Gedi Hostel Accessible Wing

Content
Hostelling International (HI) Israel is proud of a new wing in the HI Ein Gedi Hostel, designed to provide accessible accommodations for travellers with disabilities.

The wing is the first of its kind in Israel and it is equipped with 18 accessible rooms. These rooms are standard with widened doorways and broad passageways for wheelchairs, and some of the rooms include adjustable beds, adjustable tables, adjustable washbasins in the bathroom areas, and wide showers with a washing bed and stool. These features allow the HI Ein Gedi Hostel to host travellers with a wide range of needs.

Representatives of the organizations involved in this unique and valuable initiative attended the inauguration ceremony. These organizations include the National Insurance Fund for the Development of Services for the Disabled, the Shalem Fund, Tamar Regional Council, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Social Services, and AKIM ISRAEL (National Association for the Habilitation of Children and Adults with Intellectual Disabilities). Engineers, planners and others who were building this wing also attended the ceremony.

During the ceremony, the audience was able to enjoy the performance by Be'ketzev Ha'shalva, a children’s choir from Shalva, an organization that works towards integrating children with special needs into the community with unique programs, adapted to their strengths and needs. Following the performances, speeches and acknowledgements, the IYHA's Rabbi affixed the new Mezuzas to the doorposts and gave his blessing to the initiative’s participants as well as to travellers who will cross the HI Ein Gedi gates and experience the new accessible wing in the future.
