Backpacking for business contacts

Content
So you're having a year off. You might go and volunteer abroad, you might just grab a backpack and simply travel, or you might get an abroad job as an au-pair or something similar.

In each case you are trying to find yourself, trying to figure out what to do in life and you are making important new acquaintances and possible business contacts.

But there's also a more focused way of doing just that.

Every city you visit, every person you meet, can and should widen your horizons.

Hosteling International, being represented in 90 countries around the globe, is a perfect platform for traveling and meeting new people and cultures. It's even a mission of HI to encourage youth mobility and help young people gain informal education through travel.

But now there's a great way to upgrade this practice, as Coworking is the new buzz word among young entrepreneur spirits.

Many cities around the globe (from Cape Town to Sankt Petersburg and  from Los Angeles to Maribor) have great Coworking communities of usually young entrepreneurs, free lancers and free spirits, who gather, develop their ideas, share experience and knowledge, host events, seminars, practices… and as such communities are always open and thirsty for new views, new ideas, new knowledge, they are always welcoming travellers with a similar mind frame.

So want to travel, but still follow up on that idea you were developing to start your own business? Take the time you’re staying in a new city, to hang out at their Coworking and get some work done – and more importantly, get to know other people developing their business ideas and form your own international network of business contacts (most Coworking spaces offer some sort of trial options, where you can come in for free, or at a special deal offer, while some require payment).

A great example of this is CWMB (CoworkingMaribor) in Maribor. It’s located just a short walk from the HI Hostels Pekarna or UNI and a short bike ride from Mlada Lipa; where you can come in to work for free. It’s open every weekday from 9am to 5pm and features a fast and free WiFi connection, a chill out room and a conference room if you plan to meet somebody to do business with. It has an ever growing community of currently 45 young and experienced business oriented freelancers, that started operating only this January (2015).

So if you visit Maribor, you can enjoy the city and its sights, enjoy the company of fellow travellers while staying at one of the excellent HI Hostels and you can build up your network of business contacts and work on your business idea by Coworking at CWMB. It’s a perfect package and combination of travel, fun, exploration and investments in your future career!
